Our mission is:
- To educate and inform ourselves and our community about the public health crisis of gun violence.
- To advocate for political action both nationally and in the state of Massachusetts to change gun policy in order to make our streets and our communities safer.
- To help shift a culture that tolerates and in many ways promotes gun violence, to one that focuses on safety and responsibility.
Advocates for Safe and Sound Gun Laws first came together after the tragic shooting of 26 children and six teachers at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut on December 14, 2012. Like most people across the country we grieved for the families of the people killed and our grief has fueled our commitment to reducing gun violence in our country. Composed of concerned individuals from Jamaica Plain, Roslindale, West Roxbury, and Dedham, we work with a broad coalition of other local, statewide, and national groups who share our purpose.
